With your help, we can establish a small, movable chicken coop and enclosure, called a chicken tractor, on our campus farm. Supporting this project will provide valuable educational resources and offer a variety of benefits to our university community, including:
Educational Opportunities: Chickens provide a unique opportunity for students across various disciplines to learn about animal biology, nutrition, and behavior. The coop can serve as a living laboratory for classes in agriculture, biology, and environmental science.
Sustainability: Chickens can help manage organic waste by consuming food scraps and producing high-quality fertilizer. Chickens will also further the farm’s mission of remaining an organic, pesticide-free operation by controlling pest populations through foraging.
Community Engagement: The presence of chickens can create a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. It can also serve as a conversation starter about sustainability and responsible animal care.
Local Food Production: The eggs produced by the campus chickens would be used to supplement the eggs purchased by Dining Services, contributing to our commitment to local and sustainable food sourcing.
Your gift of just $88 today will support one month in our 5-year plan to keep chickens on the farm and create hands-on experience for Central students for years to come!
